I just read an article in the Sunday edition of the LA Times regarding this new Megabus launched in August of this year. You can travel from San Fran to LA and vice versa for as low as $1 if you book is advance. 45 Days is the soonest you can make your reservations. They sell so many $1 roundtrip reservations and then the price goes slightly up. Another person claimed they bought their ticket for $11 for their roundtrip ticket. Perhaps you should check it out. The budget hotel chain Travelodge have just announced their 100 miles v £100 challenge aimed at helping families in the UK get away for cheap city breaks. The idea is that a family should be able to visit cities within 100 miles of their home with a one night stay at a Travelodge plus admission to attractions for under £100.

They have produced a number of factsheets with a suggested itinerary for a weekend break in 10 top UK cities, including attractions, places to eat, prices, contact information and a list of all the nearest Travelodge hotels.

Yes, it is true. A week before and after your birthday you and a guest can fly anywhere domestically in Japan. Average prices for a one ticket top out at about 10,000 yen, which is really cheap for Japan. I am not sure how many times you can fly in one birthday period, but I flew four times in one week during July 2005 for a total cost 34,000 yen. Both JAL and ANA offer birthday discounts, but they both occasionally stop offering them from time to time. Tickets can only be booked 30 days or less in advance. I also believe that you must arrange tickets at an office, i.e., it can't be done over the web.

WHAT: The bargain bus company, Megabus, launched fares that run $1 to $15.50 (plus a 50-cent booking fee) depending on how early you book and the demand on the route. Last month, the company also added daily service from Los Angeles to Phoenix and the Bay Area city of Millbrae.

As it was pointed out many times, the train ticket prices in Europe are asymmetrical: it is nearly always less expensive to travel from "EAST" to "WEST" than the other way.
