Lithuania
Train
Full adult Railplus card for a mere 17.4 Euro
Posted on: Wed February 20 21:56:34 2008 UTC
The Rail+ card is a very popular card, it does allow 25% discount on all non-discounted TCV (European international train tariff) tickets through a year.

In West Europe it costs often over 40 Euros, in most Central/East/South European countries 25 Euros.
Not in Lithuania! Regardless of the country of residence or citizenship, it is 60 LTL (17.4 Euro) for adults.
The youth card (50 LTL = 14.5 Euro) is, however, almost the same as in most other ex-"Socialist" countries (15 Euro) . Interestingly, the senior (over 60) card is a mere 40 LTL or 11.6 Euro, a real steal!

Lithuania
Train
2 mo. train Lithuania+Poland+Germany=next to nothing
Posted on: Tue January 08 02:10:42 2008 UTC
It's a railpass-like round-trip ticket called "CITY-STAR" through all Lithuania, Poland and Germany and back. The "base" price is almost the same regardless of the route: 130.00 Euro for under 400 km in Germany and 172.00 Euro for over 400 km in Germany. The length of the route in Poland and Lithuania does not affect the price.

The deal is similar to Hungary-Austria-Germany deal except, it's for TWO month of continued rail travel and there is no weekend clause. That makes it an even more appealing for grown-ups. For passengers with children a similar deal from Hungary or Serbia is better, look for http://deals.virtualtourist.com/viewDeal-19644-11-1--Germany-viewDeal.html

Sample: two gronw-ups would tour Lithuania, Poland, Germany for two month for 258 Euro, that is 64.5 Euro pro direction, 129 Euro/person

WARNING: while there is no limit for residency or citizenship, this ticket is sold in Lithuania only. Similar tickets sold in other East/Central/Southeast European countries (former "socialist" countries). Absolutely not sold in the West and absolutely not sold overseas.

A good reason to travel to, say, Slovenia or Lithuania before going "West", not the other way!
