Religion plays an important part of life in Ethiopia. You can go with local transportation, but it's much slower and brings you only to busstations.. I love the comfort of the car. It brings us right to our hotel and to the places I want to visit. Especially if you travel with 2-4 people, it's the best way to get around and not much more expensive then local transport.
