While Milos is arguably not a "cheap" island to stay, it is quite inexpensive to fly between the island and Athens, no matter what time of the year you choose to fly.

The fare does not change depending on how many days in advance you book it. What does change, however, is the availability. During the high season, the waiting list may be as high as 4-5 weeks. Outside June-September, however, you may be able to purchase your ticket on the previous or even the same day of the flight with no price penalty. Usually, 5-7 days advance purchase is your best bet for availability.

During the summer, a one-way fare may be in the 45-48 Euros range, whereas the winter equivalent is about 10 Euros less. I have spent as low as 35 Euros (including taxes) for a one-way ticket to/from Milos without advance notice. This fare is an incredible bargain, considering that air travel to nearby Santorini (Thira) will set you back by more than twice as much (172 Euros RT). 1 Euro = approx. US$1.2 at the time of this writing.

While in Greece, you may be able to reserve a seat simply by making a phone call to the Olympic Airlines reservations desk. You'd be required to show up at the airport an hour earlier than normal, however, in order to pay for your fare.

In Summary:

The only way to fly to/from Milos, is through Athens.

Only Olympic Airways flies to Milos.

There is no advance purchase savings, only greater availability for early bookings.
